Through artful words and drawings
we follow this children’s tale like it’s a song
that starts with a child’s want to have a sibling
then a poignant reply of”well, not that, but this,”
Turn the page, then tomorrow’s refrain.
Children will get the the rhythm.
Parents will empathize with the theme.
It is written by author Kyla Saphir who grew up with 4 siblings, and who now is a mom with husband and daughter, she can and does sensitively explore the dynamics of both in a very engaging way.

You can feel the author’s emotions as she talks about the life of a single child home. It is done in such a way that adults and children will connect with the book. Interestingly, each scenario is paired with a positive outlook that just makes you smile. I love that the illustrations are truly diverse and many families will feel represented.

Very sweet book that addresses the emotional roller coaster of being a one child family when that might not have been the original plan. The illustrations represent a variety of families instead of all of them looking the same. Both children and adults will enjoy!

Beautiful book for children and adults that creates space for both to process the sweetness and sadness. The illustrations offer a variety of family representations and experiences.
